2 Weeks and We're NOT Running!

It's been a week since I updated about this Electricity Saving Project. I told my mother about the activity, and my mother said she'd be careful to turn off lights and unplug chargers, and I'm sure she has. I have noticed that whenever I see an extra light on, I feel that tug on my body that makes me WANT to walk over and turn it off. It's becoming almost like a habit. I actually started turning off lights because I WANTED to save energy, not because I had to for a grade. 2 weeks previous this project, I started to tell my family how I wished to save energy, and that we all needed to work together to carefully limit the amount of heat energy we use daily. This weekend we had a large party, and I told my cousin to watch out for unneeded lights, and even though she may have forgotten, I believe the effort of trying to get an extra person involved. So far, I feel that I have done my part. In the past my mother used to come home to a house lit up my light, and she used to say that our neighbors would ask her why our house lights were ALL on. I haven't heard that complaint for a week or so, even more. Also, I have been unplugging plugs that are constantly plugged into the wall without a device, as I was before, and in that area it has stayed somewhat the same. So far, I believe that in MY part I have been somewhat successful. As for my family, I am not sure, as my mother was the only one I reminded this week, and I cannot be positive she followed through.

My Update So Far!

Over the last week I've tried my best to try and save energy. I observe that many lights stay on during the day, when no one is occupying that room. When I come across a light that doesn't need to be on I make sure to turn it off, so that we can save as much heat energy as possible. When I leave my room, I try my best to turn the light off, as well as when I leave rooms where I've turned on separate lamps. Also, I believe I've been good at unplugging my chargers from the wall. For example, when I charge my laptop, I use to leave the charger in afterward until I needed to charge my laptop again. As you can imagine, the charger used to be in for a good portion of each day, but lately I've been unplugging it when I am done charging my laptop. Also, I make sure that if there are any other plugs in, that I unplug them and put them away if they don't have any devices connected to them. So far, it's going fairly well!!! In the future I'm hoping to involve my family more in this activity. I've told them to try and turn off the lights in the house when they're not needed times before but I would like to involve them in the other aspects of the energy saving goal as well. :) This week I'll try to not waste as many liquids, such as water, or a drink. I will make sure that we recycle all we can, which we may do already, and make sure we don't watch as much TV. The TV's important, because it makes up a good portion of the electricity we waste.

Ways I can save the ENERGY!!!

1. I can save energy at home by:

- Turning off lights when they don't need to be used.
- Think of what we need before I open the refrigerator door (and don't leave the door open.)

- Recycle more often
- Turn TV off when not in use
- Don't leave the radio on
- Use shopping tote bags at grocery stores

2. 5 ways I can?

- Don't leave my chargers, plug-ins, wires, etc. plugged into the wall
- Text or watch television less
- Turn water off while brushing my teeth (I do this most of the time, but I could still improve)

- Use clothing as heat insulation for your body
- Turn off computer when not in use

TRY IT YOURSELF!
